By focusing on the intersections of culture, the arts and advocacy the greater Phoenix collaborative communities explore the reality of Arizona's unique place in the world and the events that shape a world view perspective. The Asian and Pacific Islanders communities brought their stories of health risks, disparities and community responses and showcased them through photography and discussion: A report presented by: Asian Pacific community in Action; Health Through Action Arizona Steering committee; ASU Pacific American Studies Program.

Mario Mendia decorated the stage as the curator at ALAC at the late afternoon event from 3:00-6:00 PM before the opening of the Latino Center for the honoring of artworks focusing on the Virgen de Guadalupe Exhibition. Arizona Latin@ Arts & Cultural Center~ Galeria 147. In the images shown here Mario Mendia visits with Holly Parsons one of the speakers who opened the reception by reading her poems, I AM Migration and Japanese Sacrifice. http://www.hollyparsons.com/poetry/japanese-sacrifice In the second image of Mario, he is speaking to Dr. Fei Sun, A contributor to the report (associate professor in the ASU School of Social Work). The beautiful painting by Quetzal Guerrero of the Virgen de Guadalupe and her story was explained to Dr. Sun by Mario.
Food, prepared and donated by Rana Singh Sohi, the Guru Palace, Mesa. Currently at ALAC there is also an exhibition in one of the smaller galleries. "A Vietnam Visa Redux" by Angela Giron. Giron is quoted, "A remarkable poignant and unique experience whereby I arrived at a clear comprehension that despite alleged 'enemies', beyond borders, it is the unity of family of people that begs such a seemingly simple understanding." Zeenat Hasan, (Health Through Action Program Director) was the emcee for the afternoon event and Layal Rabat assisted in the coordination.
